Abstract
William Wordsworth has a huge impact in English Romantic Poetry because
of his very deep interest with nature, consciousness and a spiritual
experience. Among the five poems of Lucy poems. I am choosing, A Slumber Did
My Spirit Seal has a great impact on the reflection on life, death and the
relationship between humanity and the natural world. The poem is very short and
consists of only eight lines. Many questions were raised regarding the limits
of human knowledge and the understanding of these realities is beyond human
perception. These ideas are closely related to Immanuel Kant, he said there are
two worlds: the phenomenon world and the Noumenal world. This study explores
how Wordsworth employs nature as a medium through which the speaker attempts to
approach the unknowable reality. The poem moves from the state of emotional
experiences to a recognition of humans. Through imagery, symbolism and
philosophy, Wordsworth transforms Lucy from an ordinary human personality to a
timeless part of the natural world. The paper argues that nature not only works
as a beautiful or scenery part but as a gateway of reality that is above any
human understanding. By examining the poem through literary devices, the study
demonstrates how Wordsworth’s nature becomes a search for Noumenal truth. The
poem reveals that when our knowledge is inaccessible, then nature offers a
moment that allows human beings to sense a reality beyond the visible world.
