Creating learning opportunities in the affordance-oriented EFL e-learning environment: a theoretical framework and strategies

Abstract
In the process of EFL learning, what eventually determines the effectiveness is whether there are sufficient learning opportunities which ensure the happenings of learning. Affordance is one of the important elements in the study of ecology which indicates the complex interaction between the agent and its environment. It determines whether and how the leaner can perceive the ecological environment and make use of the resources. Currently, the study of foreign language e-learning has become a hot topic in the field of educational linguistics. However, less research has noticed the feature of affordance of EFL e-learning environment as a complex ecosystem. This paper, based on the study of ecology, aims to probe into the nature of affordance of EFL e-learning, so as to highlight how foreign language teaching and learning should be carried out efficiently in the new environment of learning.
