Authors
Ariel E San Jose, Arlo R Mortos
Abstract
This research explored the reasons, strategies, and insights of Filipino English lecturers in learning Arabic as the language in their workplace. This research used the qualitative-hermeneutic phenomenology and involved two-groups of lecturers. Results revealed that the need to interact with the native speakers was the driving force to learn Arabic; learning Arabic somehow affected English proficiency; participants used different learning strategies; they shared similar and distinct realizations with other Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW); and they only learned common and basic Arabic words. It implies that learning the language of the workplace is inevitable and learning it provides unlimited opportunities.
